A Conversation with Marshall University - Driving Student Success with Teaching and Assessment

Monday, October 30, 2023

2–3 p.m. Eastern Time

Every medical school is different, with unique missions and challenges to overcome to help their students succeed throughout their journeys. Schools expend many resources on assessment programs to identify needs for additional student support, evaluate the effectiveness of their curriculum, and maintain accreditation requirements — but it is not always an easy task given that many faculty are balancing this work with other responsibilities.

The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University is committed to fostering a skilled physician workforce to meet the unique healthcare needs of West Virginia and Central Appalachia. They have developed a tailored approach to support their students, many of whom are first-generation higher education learners, and help ensure they are prepared to provide excellent primary care in rural, underserved areas.

In this presentation, which includes a prerecorded learning session and a live Q&A, you will learn more about:

  • The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University and their mission
  • The challenges they face, how they have tailored their approach and why
  • How the NBME assessment portfolio and other assessment tools help them with programmatic assessment, and provide students with effective and timely feedback for their growth and learning
